Process

Use the Misconduct Hotline to report your concern if you determine that alternative resolution channels will not work. Whether you report by calling the Misconduct Hotline telephone number or fill out a web report, you will be asked a series of questions in order to gather sufficient information for Michigan State University to follow up. You will be asked to provide your contact information, but you may choose to remain anonymous, if you wish. The number of details you provide will have a direct effect on the ability to investigate your concern.

MSU uses a third party to receive your Hotline or web report and to generate a notice to MSU about its contents. The third party is staffed with trained interview specialists who intake the information by telephone or review web reports before transmitting the notice to designated University personnel for appropriate action. You will be provided a confirmation number so that you can check back in 14 days to see the status of your report. Also, MSU can request additional information on your report through the third party by using this confirmation number. This will preserve the anonymity of your report, if you have selected that option. Your report will be handled as promptly and discreetly as possible. The report will be reviewed by the Office of Audit, Risk and Compliance and assigned for verification of facts. When the review is concluded, a notice to that effect will be placed in the third party’s system. You may access that notice using your confirmation number. The University prohibits retaliation against individuals who make reports in good faith of known or suspected misconduct.
